Florence | Day Two

Saturday, April 4, 2015

On our second day in Florence, we slowly got ready, had a nice continental breakfast and made our way out to the city square.  Since we stayed right downtown, it was easy to walk everywhere we wanted to be, including all the major sites...

Our first stop was Ponte Vecchio which is a famous bridge in Florence that crosses over the main canal.  The bridge houses lots of expensive jewelry stores and is jammed packed with people.  In the evenings, there is often a live band and various street vendors selling their artwork and selfie-sticks.

After crossing the bridge, we wandered around the other side of the canal, ducking into shops and taking in the sites in a slightly less crowded area.

We came across Del Carmine on our walk and decided try our luck with lunch.  We sat on the patio, which was such a treat for us considering there is still snow at home, and had pasta and white wine.  It was sunny and breezy and it seemed at once the patio went from empty to buzzing.  The food was fresh and yummy and service was okay.

Then we visited the Sisteneen Chapel of Florence, also known as the Basilica di Santa Maria del Carmine, which, as it turns out, after we paid for our tickets, is not the actual Sisteen Chaptel--that one is in Rome.  Oh well, still an interesting sight to be seen before meandering back to the hotel for a nap and to get ready for dinner.
